Schedule Changes for the Last week of school

Wildcat family,

I am writing today asking the Wildcat family for flexibility and adaptation for a new calendar of events this week in an effort to properly recognize all students and employees. The reason there is a need for modification is our KHS baseball team advanced to the Regional finals for the second consecutive year. KHS will play Clifton HS Thursday night in Tyler, Texas at 7:00 P.M. and 12:30 P.M. Friday afternoon. Game three, if necessary, is still being discussed.  In a effort for our community and staff to attend as many events as possible, the following modifications have been made:

1) 8th grade promotion is rescheduled from Thursday night to Wednesday evening at  6:00 P.M at the Jr. High School. I realize Wednesday evening many have church activities that may be disrupted, but I have already visited with some of our local pastors who have no objection with our plan. We are always mindful of scheduling events on Wednesdays to honor those who attend church and only do so as a last resort. The change allows anyone who wants to attend both, the 8th grade promotion and playoff game, the opportunity to do so without having to without having to make a choice between the two.

2) End of the year service awards, or convocation, will be rescheduled from Friday to Thursday afternoon at 1:30. The ceremony will be held in the HS gym and not  at 1st Baptist as originally scheduled   Again, this decision was made so each of our employees who receive services awards can be recognized, while leaving ample time for anyone traveling to Tyler time to arrive safely. If you are being recognized at convocation, please be seated on the gym floor and all others sit in the stands.

3)  For those concerned about graduation, Tyler is 2 hr 45 min from Kirbyville. A 12:30 start will allow ample time for travel home and still attend graduation. Clifton HS also has graduation the same evening.

After collaborating with several leaders and community members, the modified schedule allows for maximum participation for, and by, all. Realizing no decision pleases everyone, I appreciate your support and willingness to adapt for the benefit of all Wildcats. Let's make this the best week in KCISD honoring and celebrating all the accomplishments of our students.  As always, remember what is important in life.
